Major attack on US-led military airbase in Iraq, more than 10 rockets fired

After US military action last week, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby also said, "The attack is a response to the attack on US (US) and coalition forces in Iraq." At the same time, if the need arises, the United States will continue to carry out such action even further.

Baghdad: The military airport with the presence of the US-led coalition forces in western Iraq has been targeted. On Wednesday, about 10 rockets were fired from this point of view in terms of military importance. Coalition forces and Iraqi security forces have shared information. However, it is not yet clear whether any casualties have occurred in this attack. At the same time, the spokesman of the coalition army, Colonel Wayne Marotto, said in a statement that several attacks were carried out by rockets at Ain al-Assad military airport at 7.20 am.

Iraqi force is investigating

According to Colonel Wayne Marotto, Iraqi security forces are leading the investigation into the attack. Meanwhile, a statement from the Iraqi army has come out. It says that no major damage has been done in this attack and the security forces have detected the launch pad used for the attack.

The rocket attack comes at a time when Pope Francis is scheduled to visit Iraq two days later. The Pope is also scheduled to visit Baghdad, southern Iraq and Irbil during this time. Significantly, the US last week carried out an airstrike targeting the bases of Iran-backed militia organizations near the Syria-Iraq border. Since the American attack, the counterattack was being feared that the attack might happen in response to the US attack.

Biden government's first military action

Following the US action, the Pentagon said that the air raid was carried out with Iranian-backed Qatb Hezbollah and Katab Syed al-Shuhada (Kataeb Hezbollah and Kataeb Sayyid al-Shuhada) at the border control point. Pentagon spokesman John Kirby also said, "The attack is a response to the attack on US and coalition forces in Iraq." If needed, America will continue to carry out such action even further.

Significantly, last year, Iraqi General Qasim Suleimani was killed in a US attack outside Baghdad Airport. The US last week attacked Iran-backed militia organizations in response to rocket attacks targeting locations where its forces were present.

The Pentagon said after the attack that the airstrikes were carried out earlier this month in response to a rocket attack near Irbil International Airport in northern Iraq that killed a civilian contractor and several other coalition partners Were injured.
